Sometime Later…

He pulled up in the parking garage near the elevator, after they had both grabbed a coffee to go at the quickie mart near where she lived.

“Maybe we can grab dinner, a late dinner, tonight if you would like?” He asked.

“That would be nice. I know tonight Finch and I will be working well past any normal dinner time.”

He nodded. “I’ll call you.”

“Great, that would be a good reason to get out of there,” She paused raising an eyebrow. “if I’m still stuck there.”

She smiled and gave him her cell phone number, since all he had was the number to her suite. “Well I better be off.” She leaned in towards him as he reached out and touched her cheek. They shared a soft but brief kiss.

“Ok.” He finally said, almost dreading having to go back to deal with the criminal element that filled his city, being with her, made him forget. “Try not to work too hard.” He joked.

“You too.” He watched, her full lips curl into a smile. “Have a good day, James.” She breathed his name. He loved how she said it.

“I’ll try.”

Then she got out of the car, their eyes met when she looked back at him before going into the elevator. Then he drove his car over to the precinct. As he walked up the steps, he couldn’t help but think how he relieved he was that the two of them had gotten that discussion out of the way. It still amazed him how someone as beautiful as she was would want to be with him. Seeing her with her hair down was amazing. He really hoped the two of them could spend some time together later in the evening.

Walking, into the precinct, he eyed his office as an oasis. Sighing he sat down at his desk. Finishing his coffee, he tossed the cup into the bin. He tried to focus on the various perp files he had pulled earlier to see if they matched up with any of the evidence they had gathered at the muggings but nothing was matching up. Going over his papers, he found a memo from the DA’s office. They wanted all the information Flass and him had gathered during a stakeout on one of Maroni’s cohorts known as The Chechen. He was on his way up the food chain of the underworld with Maroni; they had to try to stop the two of them. They had already tried to pick him up but nothing would stick. Sadly, at least one people took pity on him since he's known to be such a lover of animals, dogs mostly. Damn it, he wished that they could have gotten to the area that he maintained and gotten evidence to prove to people that the dogs were used as a crucial and cruel tool in intimidation.

Wandering over to the fax machine, he sent all of the information. Shortly afterward, he picked up the phone and called the office; hopping Rachel would pick up the phone.

She picked up after two rings. “Good Morning, assistant DA Charles Finch’s office how may I help you?” Her melodious voice filled his ear he smiled.

            “Hello, Rachel.”

He could hear her take in a breath. “Hello, Sergeant Gordon.” He guessed that Finch was probably nearby he wished he were.

“I’m just calling to let you know that I sent all of our information on The Chechen.”

“Thank you, sergeant.” She paused; he could envision her biting her bottom lip, looking adorable. “That will be very helpful.”

“You’re welcome.

Knowing he had to be professional. “Well, have a good afternoon. Alright, you too. Let us know if there is anything else we can do to help you out.”

“Thank you very much, Sergeant.” Good bye.”

“Goodbye, Rachel.” The two hung up.

The rest of the morning dragged on, not much was going on since Maroni was behind bars and ever since Falcone was a suspect in Bruce Wayne’s disappearance, they assumed he was doing things under the radar. His mind kept on drifting back to kissing her, feeling earlier. His head spun, just thinking about how she sneaked in that kiss on his throat.

A few hours later, when he was tempted to go down to grab a hot dog from the stand, his intercom buzzed to life.

“Jimbo, Rachel Dawes is here from the DA’s office to see you.” Relief washed over him that it wasn’t Loeb at the other end. He couldn’t stop his heart from picking up speed when he heard that Rachel was out there. His happiness uncoiled from with in his stomach.

He pressed the button to reply. “Send her to my office.” He tried to say evenly.

            “Alright, Sergeant.”

Gordon got up running a hand through his hair. He smoothed his tied, he could still feel how traced it with her finger as he opened his door.

They shared a smile, as she made her way over to him. He also had an opportunity to watch as everyone obvious or subtle looked in her direction as she walked by.

“Hello, Ms. Dawes how nice to see you again.” He said as she walked past him and into her office. He watched as she put her briefcase down. “I’ll close my door, so we can discuss the particulars,” He continued, closing the door.

A moment later, she was in his arms, he felt her kiss his chin. Distantly he was grateful that he always had his blinds in the closed position. They kissed in earnest, as he held her soft body to him, it felt so right. He resisted the urge to slip his hand under her sweater; her smooth skin was so tempting. Gordon broke off the kiss after a moment as much as he did not want to. He gave her a half smile. “It’s great to have you stop by Miss Dawes.” He gave her a squeeze.

“It’s my pleasure, sergeant.” She replied looking at him from under her eyelashes. It made his heart thud harder when she did that.

“So what can I do to help you?”

“I brought an arrest warrant for you. You and Flass can go and pick him up.”

“I see, so Finch still let you out of office after having a long dinner with me yesterday?”

“I told you, I knew how to handle him.” She smiled broadly.

“I can see that.” He allowed his thumb to graze her jaw line. She closed her eyes, he couldn’t resist, he nuzzled her throat. Pulling back, he watched as surprised splashed across her face, then he leaned in once more, only this time to kiss her soft mouth. He smiled while kissing her as he felt her hands sneak under his suit jacket.

“You are such a distraction,” he finally said, some time later.

“I could say the same thing about you.” She gave a small laugh. “I better give you that warrant.”

Reluctantly, he let go of her. Content, he watched as she bent over to retrieve her briefcase. Opening it, she handed the paper to him.

“Thank you,” he placed it on his desk, as she put her briefcase on the chair beside it.

“Would you like to grab one of those hot dogs?” He asked, wanting to spend more time with her.

“That would be great, but I better head back to the office.” She walked over to him and grabbing his tie, she tugged it gently. What did he do to get so lucky? He closed the short distance between them.

“Having fun?” He asked wrapping an arm around her.

“Maybe.” She replied he enjoyed the sight of the impish smile spreading across her face. She tugged on his tie again, this time he leaned in close. It a lot to resist kissing her just then. “I could walk you out,” He paused grazing his lips across hers. He held in a sigh of joy it caused in him. “You know to make you got a taxi. I’d drive you back but I’m tempted that I wouldn’t want to do that once we got in the car.” He grazed her lips once more.

“And you called me a distraction.” She kissed him then. In the back of his mind, he dreaded the prospect of going after The Chechen, Maroni had been easy. He would love more than anything to stay and kiss her. Her lips were softer than he could have ever imagined. She felt her arms tighten around him.

“Allow me to walk you out Ms. Dawes.” He said while opening his door.

“Thank you, sergeant.”

The two walked out of the precinct, discussing him going after The Chechen.

“You be careful, I want to see you later.” She told him once they were on the street.

“I’ll be fine.” He gave a dismissive gesture with his hand. He didn’t dare tell her that nervousness prickled the back of his neck, even after all these years on the force.

“I’m sure, he’ll be a piece of cake to arrest, especially since you are the one going after him.” She paused and tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear that had blown in her eyes. I just don’t want his mutts getting to you.”

“I’ll be ok.” He paused, looking at her, the sun was shinning down on her, she looked radiant.

“What?” she asked, she nervously looked herself over.

“I’m just looking at you.” He smiled.

“You continue to talk like that and I may not want to go back. I might have to insist that you get in the taxi with me.”

“As tempting as that sounds, you must.” He said after a sigh.

He hailed a taxi for her, then. Luckily, one shortly afterward stopped beside them on the curb.

“See you, later.” She said before getting in.

He watched as her taxi maneuvered back into traffic.
